How to Apply

Finding the Opportunities

To view MGT opportunities, you will need to log into CareerConnect. Go to 'Search' then 'Vacancies' section, enter 'MGT' in the keyword box and search.

All MGT opportunities will include a reference number e.g. MGT/24/XXXX or MGT/23/XXXX.

To receive reminders about new vacancies, you can sign up to our MGT Facebook group here: MGT 2024.

How to apply

  • Most MGT employers will ask you to submit a covering letter and CV. These can be uploaded directly to CareerConnect.
  • For some roles at The University of Manchester, you may be required to complete an application form. If so, this will be stated in the job advert with further instructions.
  • Application instructions will always be included in each specific job advert so please check the details carefully.
  • You must target your application towards the specific opportunity and the requirements outlined in the job description. See the Application and Interview Advice section of this website for support and guidance.
  • You can also ensure your CV is the best it possibly can be by using our new CareerSet online CV Checker tool.

You can apply for more than one job but you must submit a new application for each position.

Submitting your application

  • Applications for MGT positions will be made via CareerConnect.
  • For each role you wish to apply for, you will upload your CV and Covering Letter against the position in CareerConnect using the green Apply Now button on the right hand side of the vacancy screen.
  • Ensure that your CV and Covering Letter are saved as your own name - for example Simon JonesCV.doc, Simon JonesCL.doc
  • Remember you can use CareerSet to get immediate online feedback on your CV and you may wish to use this before you upload it to CareerConnect.
  • You are required to complete an Equal Opportunities Form
  • If you are applying for a job at The University of Manchester, you will be asked to answer two Guaranteed Interview questions which will be part of the application process in CareerConnect. Please see our section about the Guaranteed Interview Scheme for more information.
  • When you apply for a job via MGT, your application is forwarded to the recruiting organisation for consideration. When your application is shared with the recruiting organisation, the recruiter will then be responsible for your data. Your application information is also retained by the Careers Service for a period of 12 months, after which it will be destroyed. We do not, and will not, disclose your information to any other third party. If you have any queries about this process please contact the MGT team via mgt@manchester.ac.uk.
