Logging in and assistance with CareerConnect

Logging in - current students (Undergraduate, Masters and PhD)

You will have access from the first day of your course at The University of Manchester (usually the first day of the autumn term, 24-48 hours after you have completed all stages of student registration).

You will need your standard University of Manchester 'single sign-on' username and password to access your account. If you don't know your University of Manchester username or are having problems with your password, please visit https://www.itservices.manchester.ac.uk/help

If your course is due to end / has ended recently, continue to use the 'Student sign in' option up until the point where you receive a 'permission denied' error message after entering your details. At this point you'll be able to register a new password for your account using the 'Alumni sign in' option as explained below. To maintain your account when you graduate it is a good idea to update the email in your profile to a non student one while you are a student.

However, if you receive a 'permisison denied' error message but are still currently enrolled as an eligible student, please contact the CareerConnect support team Please include your student ID number in your email.

Please note: we do not currently have access to exchange student records. If you are here on a student exchange programme please contact the CareerConnect support team

Exchange students

Unfortunately the Careers Service are currently unable to access exchange student records via CareerConnect and are awaiting IT development work. In the mean-time please use the information on this website and use the Careers Service webchat to ask any career related questions.

Logging in - recent graduates/alumni

University of Manchester graduates will have continued access to CareerConnect for up to two years after you complete your course.

If your course is due to end / has ended recently, continue to use the 'Student sign in' option up until the point where you receive a 'permission denied' error message after entering your details. At this point you'll be able to register a new password for your account using the 'Graduate sign in' option as explained below. (You cannot apply for a graduate account while your student account is active.) There are 2 options below:

  1. Activate your graduate account by selecting forgot password on the graduate registration page and following the instructions (when using forgotten password to activate your account please use the email that you receive correspondence from us on to do this).
  2. If you find this does not work please register for a Graduate account, making sure to include your Student/Alumni ID. Simply click the 'graduate sign in' button and fill in the short registration form. You will need a non-student email address and your Student/Alumni ID number.

Your Alumni and Student ID is the same number. If you don’t have your Student/Alumni ID card, check emails from Development and Alumni Relations as your Alumni ID is recorded there. If you are unable to locate your Alumni/Student ID please request it here

If you have left your course without graduating or have suspended or interrupted your studies and no longer have access to your student IT account.

Students on an official placement year should use the student login.

To request access for up to 1 year from the time you left the University. Please fill in the registration form and use this access portal Bookmark this access portal for when you log in as it does not appear on the main login page.

You can also search our organisations' directory for details of companies who work closely with The University of Manchester.

Managed Opportunities

In CareerConnect you will see a tab entitled “Managed Opportunities”. These opportunities include a variety of schemes that the Careers Service is either wholly responsible for, or is managing on behalf of a recruiter. In other words, managing the recruitment process on behalf of a recruiting manager or organisation.

For example, Managed Opportunities includes the Student Experience Internship (SEI) and our Manchester Graduate Talent (MGT) programme, both are schemes which the Careers Service runs, hence we are managing the recruitment process on behalf of the recruiting managers which includes collecting applications on their behalf. Within Managed Opportunities you will also see some one year industrial placement opportunities being advertised and MGT roles for external businesses and recruiters; these organisations have asked us to help them manage their recruitment process and hence we will collect applications via the CareerConnect platform and provide further recruitment assistance to help them recruit a UoM student or graduate.
