Worried about affording an interview outfit?

There are several schemes that can help you with affording an interview outfit plus coaching to help boost your confidence.

SmartWorks

Smart Works is a charity which offers a free outfit for a job interview for people who identify as women and/or non-binary. You need to book a 2 hour appointment with them and travel to one of their offices (the closest to campus is in Stockport, close to the railway station). Online appointments may also be available on request. The first hour of the appointment is a fashion consultation where a volunteer helps you select your outfit which is yours to keep, including accessories such as shoes, coat, and tights. The second hour is interview advice and support.

  • Book with the Manchester Smart Works office by phoning 0161 974 0669.
N.B their website says you must be referred by a partner agency but they have told us they are happy for students to self-refer. If you have any difficulties contact us by sending a question via CareerConnect.
  • You must have a real interview coming up.
  • There is no means-test to qualify.

Working Wardrobe

Working Wardrobe is a Manchester charity providing high quality free to keep interview clothes and training for people who identify as men and/or non-binary. Appointments are provided in Moss Side in Manchester on Mondays. After the personalised styling session each client receives a one-to-one coaching session on increasing your awareness of your strengths, answering questions effectively and what is expected of you at interview.
