Writing your CV a step by step guide

This step by step guide aims to take you from the basics of writing or updating your CV to tailoring it ready to send off when applying for a job (or other opportunity / course requiring a CV).

A word on the job market - you can stand out!

The job market in the UK is competitive, however, graduate jobs are no more impacted than others in the current econonic situation. AI is not stealing jobs but it is making recruitment incredibly expensive for employers who are flooded with applications of a relatively poor quality generated en masse by AI. This and other factors contribute to fewer jobs being available and more people applying.

AI to use or not to use?

Many students choose to use AI to create, edit or tailor their CV in order to save time. While AI can offer some useful suggestions it often sounds generic and lacks the personal insight and authenticity that employers are looking for, they often say the best applications are those that do not use AI.

Our advice is to make your applications personal and specifically tailored to the employers needs. Although we will give you some guidance on using AI for applications we recommend you use your personal research, authentic voice and judgment. We also recommend you seek careers advice to help you review your CV/application.
