Make your CV stand out by entering a competition, award or prize

Competitions, prizes and awards are a great way for you to gain experience for your CV and often some cash or work experience. Many competitions require you to work in a team / produce innovative ideas / work to a brief / write a report, all great skills to put on your CV even if you don't win!

  • Spark Change 2021 Competition Nationwide competition for university students. It offers an opportunity to showcase your ability to find a novel solution to an everyday problem and win a number of prizes. Competition will commence on 19th April.
  • Showcode Athena Hack 2021 A Virtual Hackathon helping shine the spotlight on some amazing women and non-binary people in tech. Panelists, Speakers and Workshops: 12th - 24th April 2021. Circular Economy Hackathon: 16th - 18th April 2021.
  • EY Better Working World Data Challenge This year’s challenge gives students and early career data scientists worldwide a chance to use their data science skills to make a real-world impact and improve bushfire management. The Challenge is open from 24 March until 15 June 2021.
  • Rate My Placement / Bank of America Shape Your World Challenge Answer three questions about the worlds of technology, sustainability and work culture for a chance to win vouchers for an online sustainability store, plus a £20 charity donation of your choice.
  • CIH futures national housing challenge Essay competition for students and those aged 18-25 years old who have the opportunity to win a paid summer internship or insight day at Homes England.
  • Siemens Mobility Artificial Intelligence Dependability Assessment - Student Challenge! Open to students and student teams from universities. Create an AI model for a simple classification problem with demanding safety requirements and you could win 10,000 Euro prize.

  • Liquid Legal Institute Student Competition - The Oath Of Justitia Participants are challenged to formulate an Oath of Justitia, the legal industry’s equivalent to the Hippocratic Oath. Submit a student team entry for chance to win 1000Euros and your entry published.
  • McKinsey Solve It Competition for university students who would like to use their skills to help a non-profit to address some of their current strategic and operational challenges. Participating in this event will give you the opportunity to learn, meet like-minded peers, and do meaningful work that will have a social impact. Each winner will receive £2,000 and a professional mentor. Applications close 22 February, 2021.
  • Police Now: Tomorrow’s Leaders competition is a series of four virtual challenges, taking place over four weeks in January/February 2021. Each challenge will focus on a different skill that Police Now participants develop to help them transform communities and make a real impact. Prizes include a pair of AirPods Pro and a Macbook Air.

  • TargetJobs Undergraduate of the Year Awards 2021 Now open for applications. There are 9 different awards running. Eligibility and entry criteria award can be found on the website. Win valuable experience in the form of internships and placements. Deadline for applications 1 February 2021.
  • Baillie Gifford Alternative Internship Win £5,000 to deliver a research project in June and July 2021 followed by two weeks in their Edinburgh head office at the beginning of August (either virtually or with paid accommodation in the city). Complete their Curious Minds quiz and answer an application question by 22 November. Open to penultimate year students.
  • Siemens SustainaCity Racer competition Virtual challenge taking place on Saturday 21 November where engineering, technology and business students will be put into teams and will work together virtually to use their creativity to overcome a variety of challenges. The winning team will be considered for an internship or graduate programme at Siemens, as well as receiving a £250 Amazon voucher and an engraved trophy for each member. Everyone taking part will receive a LinkedIn endorsement from Siemens. Application deadline 1 November 2020.
  • L'Oreal Brandstorm Competition Annual competition to innovate the next generation of retail.
  • Hilti IT Competition Define the future of remote work and collaboration in the construction industry. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from all parts of the globe are encouraged to participate to not only display their innovative ideas but also pave a way to kick-start great careers. Registration for the competition closes on the 30th of November 2020 and prizes include a sponsored study trip to one of HILTI’s IT Strategic Locations (Malaysia, Switzerland or the United States), fast track career opportunities for roles with Hilti and Hilti power tools.
  • TATA Consultancy Services Codevita Competition Registrations for Global Phase open until 1 December 2020.
  • Future Legal Mind Annual law essay competition run by National Accident Helpline to find the UK’s brightest legal prospect. Competition is open to law students and to legal trainees who are within the first two years of their careers.The winner will receive a £2,000 prize fund to support their career development and will take part in mentoring with experienced lawyers from the National Accident Helpline team.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) Educate Challenge Sign up to build cloud computing skills, earn digital credentials for your CV and win prizes.
