Guaranteed Interview Scheme

Each year we offer a number of SEI internships within The University of Manchester.

The University of Manchester is a Disability Confident Employer meaning it offers applicants a guaranteed interview if they meet the minimum essential criteria for the role. The Guaranteed Interview Scheme applies to SEI roles that are based at the University.

What it means for you:

  • You are being judged on your merits to fulfil the requirements of the role; this is determined by your performance in interview and not by the fact you are disabled.
  • Having a disability has many challenges; you already know this. Disability Confident employers are keen to recruit from as diverse a talent pool of applicants as possible, so the scheme gives you not a guaranteed job offer but an opportunity to be fairly and equally assessed in interview along with other candidates who meet the criteria for the role.
  • You can apply for the GI with any disability/long term health condition/mental health condition and remember you are not required to share the name or nature of this condition; you are simply stating the fact that you are disabled. Adjustments for the interview can be made if needed so please contact us if you require this.
  • You may need adjustments in the workplace that can be discussed if you are made a job offer which will enable you to perform the duties required. These will not be discussed at the interview.
  • Hiring managers do not automatically know the details of your condition(s), they are allowed only to ask what adjustments you may need before the interview or when you are in receipt of a job offer.
  • Be reassured that any adjustments you require will be treated in the strictest confidence and will not form part of any aspect of the assessment.
  • In your application ensure you show clearly how you meet the essential criteria.
