Student Journalism competition

The Media Club and Enterprise Club have collaborated to offer University of Manchester students the opportunity to demonstrate your journalistic skills and develop your portfolio of work for your CV.

The Media Club team wanted to provide an opportunity for our students to engage in a positive initiative to gain some media experience during this time. The Enterprise Club want to develop their collection of materials so they can reach out to more students and encourage them to consider the diverse opportunities that a future in Enterprise can present.

Your brief

Coming together for this collaboration, we want you to submit a piece of journalistic work which explores ‘The Rise of Enterprise’.
You are free to interpret this brief however you want but there are some ideas below, if you need any inspiration.

• Showcasing successful University of Manchester alumni Start Ups (a case study approach)
• The creative ‘underworld’ of the University of Manchester, exploring the diversity of the side hustles happening alongside students’ degree studies
• Freelancing – what are the realities and how can you be successful/prepare for a freelance career whilst you’re at University?
• Enterprising Manchester – a look at the growth of the sector across the City
• Social Enterprise and why it is important to students

You will submit either

  • A written piece of no more than 1000 words which could be for an online news platform, magazine, blog
