In Semester 1

  • Wed 4 Oct, 5.15-6.30pm - University Place, Rm 1.218 - Introduction to Media Club – find out how you can benefit from getting involved in the Media Club. You’ll learn about the different branches of the media, how to get involved in student media and will hear from University of Manchester graduates about their experience of finding experience and forging successful careers.
  • Mon 9 Oct, 5.15-6.30pm - University Place, room 4.204 - Finding and Keeping a Job in Television – a talk by Cat Lewis, TV Executive Producer and founder and CEO of Nine Lives Media, a leading TV, Film and Video production company.
  • Tues 17th Oct, 5.15 – 6.30pm - University Place TBC - Introduction to Broadcast Journalism. We’ll be joined by an established BBC News journalist who will share their experiences from a career in this role. In addition, you’ll hear from a guest who’s recently completed their Broadcast Journalism Masters degree and will be sharing their thoughts on post-grad study and getting started with a career in this area.
  • Tues 24 Oct, 5.15-6.30pm - University Place 6.213 - Working in Publishing Publishing is a popular career choice but it can be hard to find out about the different roles, experience needed and how to find jobs. This session will be delivered by Alistair Hodge of the Publishers Association and Vicky Smith from the Society of Young Publishers. This is an informal session offering a chance to find out about working in publishing and put forward any questions you may have.
  • Weds 8th Nov, 5.15–6.30pm - University Place - TBC First Steps in Media. Meet and chat with several recent graduates who are taking their first steps into a range of media careers and keen to pass on tips, advice and insights into getting work experience, finding jobs and explain how students can get started in this exciting and competitive sector.
  • Nov – date tbc - Media Club visit to MediaCom – we’re taking a small group of students to visit MediaCom’s Manchester Offices. Hear from recent graduates and senior staff about their work in media planning and strategy, working with clients, and recent campaigns they’ve been involved with. Details will be posted on the Media Club Facebook group and on www.manchester.ac.uk/careerslink
  • Nov – date tbc Working for the BBC delivered by a BBC recruiter
  • Thurs 23 Nov, 5.15-6.30pm - University Place 6.213 - News Associates - A journalism workshop for anyone interested in news journalism.

In semester 2

  • Tues 20 Feb Meet the Professionals: Media and Marketing – an opportunity to Network with University of Manchester graduates working in Media and Marketing roles.
  • Easter vacation Insight into Broadcasting and Journalism - one day event – date to be announced

  • How to pitch an idea
  • Working in Film
