Start-up visa

The Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa has been replaced by the new Start-up visa, which was introduced on 29 March 2019.

This is a visa route for entrepreneurs looking to set up a business in the UK for the first time.
Applications for the Start-up scheme must be endorsed by either an HEI (Higher Education Institution) endorsing body or a Business endorsing body.

If you are a current student or graduate of The University of Manchester and wish to be sent more details on the scheme please send an e-mail to requesting to be put on the mailing list and you will receive in return details of the application process.

The new criteria on which the decision to endorse or not is based, are more stringent than for the Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) visa. The new businesses will need to be innovative with a clear sustainable competitive advantage over existing provision, they will need to be scalable with potential to create substantial jobs and growth not just in the UK but abroad as well, and that the applicants will need to be able to demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and competencies to run the business.

If your need is urgent please find out if you are able to apply through one of the other new endorsing bodies that are also supporting the new scheme.
