Employability, Careers and Alumni Intern, School of Biological Sciences
Give a quick snapshot of your role.
I work as the Employability, Careers and Alumni Intern for the School of Biological Sciences. This involves working to improve the employability of students within the school through the leading of employability-specific tutorials, organising of careers and alumni events and production of a range of employability material, such as three Employability Newsletters over the course of the year. I’m also responsible for maintaining other school employability provisions and running and leading regular applications and CV advice surgeries.
Why did you choose MGT?
I chose MGT as I knew the roles available would be great for building on the skills developed during a degree at the University of Manchester, whilst providing extra experience to stand out from the crowd in the current climate where a degree alone is not enough.
How have you benefitted from your MGT?
I have benefitted through the gaining of a range of real world experience. This has been possible thanks to the variety of work required of me and through the freedom to innovate and make what I want of the role, so to speak.
What advice would you give someone considering MGT?
The advice I would give to someone applying for an MGT is to bring not just the skills you have developed as part of your degree but also those from any extra-curricular activities you’ve taken part in during your time at university. Not only this but try to relate these experiences to the skills required of the job so that they can act as evidence of your ability to excel in the various aspects of that role.
What are your plans for the future?
I want to use both my experience and the knowledge gained from my degree in Biomedical Sciences to work in a science related business setting.
