Do I need to bring a copy of my CV with me?

We recommend that you prepare an up to date CV and bring copies with you on the day to hand to the employers you have spoken to. Some employers may be using online application forms, but many will be accepting CVs. Some employers may also invite you for an informal interview during their time in the UK.

Should I dress smartly?

Yes, dress smartly. First impressions count.

Any tips on the day?

There will also be a “Fair Guide” available free on the day with details of the employers and their stand position. You can collect this on entry to the fair.

For those of you studying at The University of Manchester, bring your university swipe card with you on the day – it will enable you to swipe in for fast-track access.

Be prepared to queue – the fair could be busy. You may have limited time to ask all your questions or make an impact, so be prepared and plan ahead with your key questions, and preferred exhibitors. Make the most of the time, and come early if you can.

Before leaving a stand, make a note of the name of the person to whom you have been speaking - it could be useful if you want to follow up the contact later on.

How should I prepare for the fair?

Consider how you will introduce yourself on the day and have a few simple questions prepared in advance to help show your interest and motivation. The right approach will help you make the right impact.

Example: “Good afternoon, my name is ……I am a second year marketing student at the University, with a year of previous experience working in Pakistan.  I am really interested in your marketing opportunities and was reading about positions for 2012 on your website. Would you be able to tell me a little more about the roles you have available in this area?”

Find out which companies are attending by checking our “Employers exhibiting” link. You can also find out more about their opportunities from their websites too. Keep checking, as this list is regularly updated.

Be prepared to answer questions from employers about such things as:

  • Your interest in this organisation and what you know about them.
  • Reasons why you are interested in a particular job role or scheme.
  • What you feel you have to offer (skills, experience to date or anything that makes you stand out)

The employers want to feel you have thought about what you have to offer and how you fit the organisation. If you have any queries or concerns about the fair and how to prepare yourself, you can also email The Careers Service (with “Pakistan Fair” in the subject header).
