What is the Manchester Graduate Internship Programme (MGIP)?

MGIP is managed by The University of Manchester's Careers Service and is exclusively for students graduating from The University of Manchester in 2012. Our internships are:

    • Paid graduate level positions (salaries may vary but in 2011 the average salary for a MGIP internship was £15k per annum pro rata).
    • All roles are based in Greater Manchester allowing graduates to develop their career in the UK's best city to live in.
    • Between a minimum of 4 months and a maximum of 12 months duration, with start dates falling between June 2012 and February 2013.

The exact nature of each internship will vary depending on the organisation offering the position and its duration. Every graduate who participates in MGIP will however be given the chance to use the skills they have developed during their time at The University of Manchester, demonstrate their potential and fast-track their career prospects.

The number of vacancies available has grown each year that MGIP has been running. In 2011 we advertised over 180 vacancies.

    Is MGIP for me?

It doesn't matter whether you know exactly what career path you want to take. MGIP acts as a career launchpad in many different ways.

MGIP could be for you if you want to:

    • Stay in Manchester
    • Work for a small / medium size organisation.
    • Gain relevant work experience to improve your chances of getting onto a graduate scheme or into an area of work that is traditionally difficult to enter into at graduate level (e.g. research, marketing)
    • Earn money to go on to further study or to go travelling.
