Practice or mock interviews
- The session lasts 30 minutes.
- The careers consultant will ask you a selection of interview questions and give you feedback on your responses.
- We will help you to make the most of your skills and experience, and give you constructive feedback on your technique.
While we aim to cover the area of work for which you have applied, we cannot predict the exact questions an employer will ask, and are unlikely to be able to ask technical questions.
Video interview
Subject to limited availability, you may request a video interview.
- This lasts one hour and gives you the opportunity to see for yourself how you perform in an interview.
- You may arrange in advance to purchase the tape on which your interview is recorded. This costs £3. Please note the tape is 8mm video, and can only be played back on a video camera, or using a special adaptor.
Preparation
Re-read your application and the job description, think about the key skills and knowledge that the employer is going to be looking for. The following resources will help you prepare:
- Essential guide to First Interviews (pdf)
- Reference books on interview technique: Search the online careers library.
Online video resources
- Find out what employers say about interviews.
- Making an impact - the graduate job interview.
Who can book one
- Current students of The University of Manchester
- Graduates within three years of graduation of The University of Manchester.
Please note:
At peak times we are unable to offer individuals more that 1 mock interview. Interview techniques may also be discussed as part of a guidance appointment. At less busy times, an additional mock interview may be possible at the discretion of the Careers Service.
To schedule a mock interview you must have confirmation that an organisation has offered you an interview. This enables us to schedule an appointment for you at a suitable time and will ensure that the help you get is targeted for that interview.
