Making the most of the fair
Be well prepared
- Register for vacancies by email.
- Prepare copies of your CV to take along. In some cases, employers will be happy to accept these from you at the Fair. Others, however, may need you to apply on their own application form (often online).
- Have a few simple questions prepared in advance to help introduce yourself to the employers and to show your interest and motivation. The Fair is informal, but the right approach will help you make the right impact.
- Find out in advance which companies are attending with our A-Z list of exhibitors. You can also see what opportunities they will be offering on the day. This might help you draw up a hitlist of the companies you want to target. Keep checking, as this list is regularly updated.
Prepare for the fairs talks
If you are in Manchester, come to one of our free sessions designed to help you get the most out of the fairs. Check the website at the end of August for the dates and times of these talks.
On the day - tips
- Make sure you pick up a copy of the Guide - available on the day, free of charge. If you've not done so in advance, try to pick out the companies whom you would most like to speak to.
- Be prepared to queue - about 3,000 visitors usually attend. You will have limited time to ask your questions or make an impact, so be prepared.
- If you are using the fair to get a job, come smartly dressed - first impressions count.
- Before leaving a stand, make a note of the name of the person to whom you have been speaking - it will be useful if you want to follow up the contact later on.
