Recruiting for positions in the UK

Ways to recruit

Many of our international students are keen to buil upon their existing working experiences with employment during their study in the UK, and a number look to stay and work in the UK after graduation.

Businesses are increasingly tapping into this resource of talent and international expertise and employers advertise their graduate positions with us year round.

Our international students are available for a range of positions from graduate positions to temporary student employment and from fixed term consultancy projects to voluntary project work. The Careers Service is happy to help you explore the opportunities available.

Recuriting international graduates after graduation

Some of our international graduates have permission to stay on and work in the UK after graduation. These include European Economic Area (EEA) graduates and those who have permission to work under a government scheme (such as the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme).

Other international graduates will not be able to work in the UK after their student visa has expired without the need for the employer to apply for a work permit on their behalf.

Recruiting international students during their studies

Current students are available for short term project work, part-time positions or vacation work/year placements. The majority of international students do not need a work permit to work during their student visa, although there are a few restrictions on the number of hours they can work during term-times.

The British Council also run a scheme (BOND) which allows businesses to recruit an international graduate for business consultancy projects for up to 12 months after their graduation. The British Council administer the process for the business. To find out more about the BOND scheme, visit the BOND section of the British Council website.
