What do I need to know about it?

The Manchester Leadership Programme (MLP) enables students to enrich their learning and boost their employability by means of the unique combination of a taught academic programme and volunteering.

What are the aims of the MLP?

The MLP believes that the students of today are the leaders of tomorrow.

Working from this premise, the MLP aims to:

  • Inform, enlighten and inspire the leaders of tomorrow by providing an opportunity to learn from the leaders of today.
  • Enrich the learning and enhance the employability of students at The University of Manchester.
  • Challenge and equip students to confront personal values and make ethical judgements.
  • Prepare students for citizenship, entrepreneurship and leadership in diverse global environments.

MLP students learn how to become the responsible leaders of tomorrow via a unique combination of:

  • Academic units, both lecture based and online, delivered by high profile business, academic and community representatives.
  • Hands on practical experience, through volunteering within the local community.

Students who successfully complete both parts of the programme, receive the prestigious Manchester Leadership Award.

Year on year, the market becomes more competitive, so for candidates to have done different projects and volunteering and to have mixed with people out of their comfort zone, makes them more employable.
