Career Panels

  • Introduction to the day
  • Panels and seminars from 9.45am - 4.00pm

Question and Answer panel sessions will take place throughout the morning session (9.45am-1.15pm), covering both academic and non-academic career options for researchers from all Faculties.

Previous discussion topics have included: research roles outside academia; industry vs academia; working overseas; changing your mind/changing your career; consultancy roles and self-employment; non-academic roles in universities.

Guest panellists include those who have either completed their PhDs or moved on from university research posts in the last 10 years, or who have expertise in the job market for PhDs and researchers.

After lunch, there will be a plenary seminar on 'What do recruiters/employers look for in PhD applicants', as well as a session by Dr Jen Allanson on 'Managing your career in an uncertain world'.

Information on the panellists who are attending the event will be uploaded here shortly.

Alongside the sessions, more informal individual conversations take place in our Careers Lounge throughout the day and there are plenty of opportunities to meet with our guests and other PhD students.

Lunch and refreshments provided.

Photographs will be taken at this event. These may be used for publicity purposes, including web pages. If you have any objections to your photograph being used, please alert the photographer or a member of staff.
