Placement: Audit Associate - Deloitte, London.
Please provide an overview of your role.
I was an audit associate in the Banking and Capital Markets (BCM) department. As an audit associate my role consisted of testing each of the balances in the client’s financial statements. We did this by inspecting transactions and events to support documentation such as; invoices, bank statements, contract agreements etc. I performed different types of testing (substantive, disclosure, test of details, controls testing etc.) to check for errors and investigated firms to address the complications
Also, Deloitte was really helpful with accommodation as they have an agreement with the housing company Get Living London. The agreement consists of a 1 year contract with Get Living London where we benefit from not paying deposit nor the first 2 weeks of rent.

Did you enjoy your placement?
I really enjoyed my placement, it was actually one of the best years of my life! I would definitely recommend every student to take a year in industry.
Would you recommend your employer to future students?
I would definitely recommend Deloitte to future students. It is one of the biggest firms in the world and the experience of working for it is amazing. Due to its exposure, it’s a firm where you get to learn a lot in a small period of time. Also, the people are amazing and I made lots of friends during the year. Deloitte is a great firm for networking as you are always meeting new people both from Deloitte and the firms you audit. I took part in many outside activities organized by the firm such as new joiner’s drinks, busy season drinks, audit dinners and very nice meals.
What advice would you give to students who are thinking about applying to the same role/company?
Before joining I would recommend students to extensively research Deloitte as a firm and what audit is, this is key for interviews and assessment centre preparation. I also contacted people who worked at the firm for advice, read many reviews and watched the firm’s videos. I think this really helped me to successfully go through the recruitment process.
