Ryan

Data and Information Officer, University Hospital of South Manchester (UHSM)

Give a quick snapshot of your role.

My role at the trust involves creating reports on the day-to-day work carried out by various healthcare professionals. I collect, manipulate and examine collected data to determine how best to integrate a new electronic patient record system into their roles. I am also involved in resolving issues as they arise that members of staff experience, as well as foreseeing future problems.

Why did you choose MGT?

I chose MGT because of excellent help you are given with applications. MGT also seemed to offer opportunities with the chance to gain experience as well as learning and developing new skills in areas which were not available with graduate level jobs.

How have you benefitted from your MGT?

The experience I have gained from working in every area of such a fast moving and developing hospital has been extremely rewarding & interesting and I am now discovering new aptitudes to my working self, such as in project management.

What advice would you give someone considering MGT?

Take the time, sit down and work slowly through the application. I finally found that if I tailored my application and contacted the employer to arrange an informal visit prior to applying, I received interview offers for most applications.

What are your plans for the future?

I hope to eventually study for a Master’s degree, where I can combine my love of biology with my new interests in business management and maybe eventually work in the pharmaceutical industry or remain in healthcare. Whatever I decide, the future now looks a lot brighter after my Manchester Graduate Talent!
