International graduate jobs: jobs outside the UK

As many international students in the UK know, finding a graduate level job outside your home country is not always simple. You need to understand the job market and where vacancies are advertised. It may not be clear if a work visa is required and what the restrictions on this are, if in doubt contact the company.

Checklist

  • Do you know which companies are located in the country or city you want to work in?
  • Are graduate schemes common in this country?
  • When are jobs advertised and how do you access them?
  • How do I write CV for that country?
  • How will you manage travel to multiple interviews if you are outside of that country?

  • Passport Career Use the country profiles to find out about working in different countries, useful job sites and top employers. Use the jobs search to look for live opportunities. Select the country in the drop down list, you will need to see which key words work best for the job type you are looking for try using "graduate" in the keyword search box. You will need to read the information carefully some opportunities will need visas or specific nationality criteria. If in doubt contact the company offering the internship.   • Glassdoor Vacancy search is searchable by city. eg Paris, France, not just France, so you need to know where you want to be based. You can put graduate in the keyword search.
  • Target jobs Use the search function and select graduate jobs and international

  • International networks Use contacts, LinkedIn groups and alumni networks to find information and opportunities.
