“This June I was fortunate enough to be given the chance to volunteer in Sri Lanka for 5 weeks on a mental health placement working with service users suffering a range of psychological disorders such as schizophrenia and depression. Thanks to the Work experience Bursary I received I was able to fly there and back at a considerably lower financial cost on my behalf and without this support I would have struggled to afford to go. It was an incredibly rewarding yet challenging 5 weeks but it gave me opportunity’s I would not be exposed to in the UK such as living in a lower economically developed country, working in psychiatric hospitals, delivering a range of psychological therapy and teaching English.

It will be very valuable to say I’ve been to Sri Lanka beyond university when I apply for jobs putting me one step ahead as I can mention the skills I learnt and new experiences I had which many others won’t be able to say.”
