Entry Requirements

For our master's courses, you are normally required to have a good undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent from a university outside the UK). If you have other qualifications and a number of years' relevant work experience then you many also be eligible to apply. Some programmes have additional entry requirements which are specified in the individual subject sections of our website and prospectus.
• For our PhD courses, the minimum requirement for entry is normally an upper second class UK honours degree (2:1) or equivalent. A number of areas require or refer a master's degree. Please contact the relevant department for any subject-specific requirements. We welcome applicants who can demonstrate their English language proficiency at the point of of application, or who may not quite be at the right level yet. We have a number of ways to support you in achieving your academic potential at Reading through our excellent English language support, before or during your main programme of study. Our normal IELTS requirements (depending on the programme) are an overall score of 7.0 in the IELTS with no individual element scoring less than 6.0 or an overall score of 6.5 in the IELTS with no individual element scoring less than 5.5.
